Our Challenge
As small business owners in the recruitment industry we are always trying to maximize opportunity and profit, while keeping costs down. This became particularly important during the credit crunch.
Other than employee salaries one of our largest costs - and of any recruitment business - is making new candidates aware that we exist and attracting new clients to replace lapsed ones.
This was all in the context of an industry that has changed dramatically over the years - with recruitment advertising migrating from traditional broadsheets and specialist vertical sector magazines to internet job boards and sector specific job portals.
So, we found ourselves spreading our budget across more mediums in order to achieve the volumes - and the quality - of candidates required - and that meant increasing expenditure.
Our Solution
We decided to identify the best way to target high quality candidates that matched our clients' needs. We started by talking to the job boards and asking what candidates were typing when they searched for roles within our sectors.
A clear pattern emerged - they searched for the specific roles they were looking for. A National Account Manager for example will search for NAM Jobs.
This confirmed what we really already knew - but then we had a moment of clarity. The sites that came up after searches were all branded - but not to what the candidates were actually typing in their job search. In our case, research showed they were specifically typing in the phrase, 'Nam jobs'.
Further research showed that the specific domain name namjobs.co.uk - and others relevant to our sector - were available, so we bought them and created a basic website relevant to each sector.
Then something very special happened. The sites very quickly went to the first page of the natural/organic search results of the major search engines, resulting in fantastic levels of exclusive, high quality candidates applying for our Clients positions.
Our Results
Within just two months of
'namjobs.co.uk' going live we directly made two placements worth over £16,000 in fees from the candidates generated. A great return on investment and much more cost effective than our previous marketing!
Six months later the fees generated directly from
namjobs.co.uk has increased to over £60,000.
The Birth of Find You First
Following this success we realized that we had identified a way of helping other small and medium sized businesses (SME's) and even major corporate businesses, to attract specific leads directly relevant to their customer profile at a low cost and with a terrific Return on Investment (ROI). All without expensive Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) or adwords.
Over the last two years more intensive analysis of user search behaviour in the UK and USA has resulted in us acquiring a large portfolio of geographically targeted domains.
These all contain the most common phrase that searchers type at the moment they are seeking to purchase a particular product or service - for instance
'Accountant Nottingham' or
'Telemarketing Bristol'.
It really worked for us - and I'll be happy to show you the figures that prove it. Now it could work for you too.
